In L.A., high schoolers learn online

High Schools in L.A. are starting to catch the Online Course bug. Students are now able to take classes online solely for their curriculum or as a part of their curriculum.

The results have been great since many kids who wouldn’t be taking classes are jumping on the bandwagon.

The online school is called, Los Angeles Virtual High School Academy. It is already attracting up to 650 freshman and sophomores for this coming school year. In the past this program has had 2,500 kids taking at least one online class. The goal of this program is to eventually have a school 100% online.

The reason for such an explosion for online courses is that some budget cuts take away classes for students, such as foreign language, college prep classes, advanced classes in English and Math, and classes for college credit. With online education these budget cuts don’t affect the education that these students will receive. In a way online education guarantees the best education a student should expect.
