Keeping in the Kno

Each semester, rising textbook prices become the center of debate. Not only are these textbooks too expensive for students and school districts, but the costs are rising. Not only are the expensive, but textbooks are heavy to tote around from class to class and class to home. There are several eReaders available on the market, like the Kindle and the Nook, that offer select textbooks for purchase, however, it does not offer the same quality pictures and easy note taking that a traditional textbook does.

The up and coming device, Kno™, which is short for knowledge, offers solutions to these problems. The Kno, with single and dual display options, provides readers with the ability to highlight, write notes, and post virtual sticky notes while reading. And, it even adds to the textbook experience by incorporating video content and downloadable applications into the digital textbooks. How great would it be if, when confused about a topic, you could watch a video on the topic inside the textbook? Digital textbooks have the potential to increase understanding and make the reading experience more enjoyable for students.

Virtual textbooks are the future. By integrating them into the schools and universities, we can save money, save aches from carrying around books, and even save our forests.

With the strides companies are making with digital textbooks, can you see any advantages to keeping the traditional textbooks alive?
