Word Lens: the next generation of translators?

Picture yourself, strolling the beaches of Spain. You are ready for lunch and walk up to a nearby cantina, but cannot read anything on the menu. Well, there’s an app for that.

Just before the holidays, all the buzz in the technology world involving applications was the  new iPhone application Word Lens. This innovative app uses your iPhone’s camera to translate written text. You place the text within your phone’s camera frame and wait for the app to work it’s magic (see video below). What is even more impressive is that it does all of this without a data connection, so once it is downloaded, you can roam and translate Internet-free.

The app is free to download and comes with Spanish-English and English-Spanish language translation packs. However, it will cost you $4.99 for other languages.

Download Word Lens from the App Store on iTunes.

Has anyone had the chance to try it out? What do you think of Word Lens?
